The port of Palau

Palau's port is the main gateway to the Maddalena archipelago. Here is how it works, where to park and how to catch the right ferry.

Where it is

The port is right in central Palau, a 5-minute walk from the main square. Open it in Google Maps.

Ferries to La Maddalena

Ferries connect Palau to La Maddalena every 15–30 minutes from early morning to late at night. The crossing takes about 15 minutes. Main operators: Delcomar, Maddalena Lines, Enermar.

  • Frequency: every 15–30 min in high season, every 30–60 min in low season
  • First ferry: around 7:00
  • Last: around 00:30 in summer, 22:00 in low season
  • Cars, motorhomes, motorbikes and bikes can be loaded

Tickets and indicative prices

  • Foot passenger: about €6–9 return
  • Car + driver: about €25–40 return (in high season)
  • Children under 4: free
  • Tickets at the ticket office or online on the operators' websites

Car boarding

In high season (July and August) book car boarding in advance: spaces run out. Arrive at least 30 minutes early. For a half-day visit it's better to leave the car in Palau and rent a scooter or small car on La Maddalena.

Parking near the port

  • Port car park — paid, handy but often full
  • Free car parks — heading up toward the centre, 5–10 min on foot
  • Covered multi-storey car park — convenient on very sunny days

Boat tours

Every morning day-tours leave the port for the archipelago: they visit Spargi, Budelli, Santa Maria, Santo Stefano. Indicative cost €40–60 per person, lunch on board included.
