Palau on a cloudy day
Practical guide

What to do in Palau when it rains

Even in Sardinia a grey day can happen. Here are 10 ideas to turn it into a great memory, between culture, food and short trips.

1. Garibaldi Compendium Museum — Caprera

A 15-minute ferry and you're inside Giuseppe Garibaldi's home. Guided tour of about 1 hour, perfect on a dull day. Open in Maps.

2. Ethnographic Museum of Aggius

45 minutes inland by car: one of Gallura's most curated museums, between traditions, fabrics and the history of banditry.

3. Shopping in Palau's centre

The town centre streets are largely covered by arcades. Great moment to look for crafts, coral jewellery and gastronomic specialities.

4. Vermentino wine tasting

Many wineries around Arzachena and Tempio offer guided visits and tastings. Ideal indoors.

5. Tempio Pausania and its thermal baths

50 minutes by car: town in grey stone, compact old centre, Rinaggiu thermal baths. Great for a "literary" day.

6. Giants' Tomb of Coddu Vecchiu

Nuragic archaeological site near Arzachena: visitable even in light rain. Unique atmosphere.

7. SPAs and wellness centres on Costa Smeralda

Several Costa Smeralda hotels open their SPAs to outside guests: hydromassage, sauna, treatments. Perfect rainy afternoon.

8. A long lunch in a trattoria

Take the chance to try a fish tasting menu or a classic Sardinian suckling pig. Rain or shine, Gallura cuisine is memorable.

9. Castelsardo

1 hour west by car: medieval village perched above the sea, castle, cathedral and basket-weaving workshops. Magical even in grey weather.

10. Cinema or reading in the apartment

Sometimes, after intense beach days, a rainy day is the perfect chance to slow down. Our apartments have cosy relax areas.
